Sad News!! Six Killed & Several Others Injured In Kampala-Gulu Highway Horror Crash
A terrible road accident happened early this morning on the busy Kampala-Gulu Highway, claiming six lives and leaving five people badly injured. The crash took place around 6:00 AM in Sinalya, a location near Bombo, and involved a commuter taxi and a Fuso truck.
According to police reports, the taxi, a Toyota Hiace with registration number UBL 502Z, was hit head-on by a Fuso Fighter truck with the number UBN 052L. The Fuso driver was reportedly overtaking recklessly when he crashed into the oncoming taxi. This careless act turned deadly within seconds.
Savanah Region Police spokesperson Sam Twinnaemazima confirmed that the taxi driver died on the spot, along with several of his passengers. Among the victims were Rogers Mfitumukiza from Gakoro Village in Kisoro, Charles Opirisa, an employee of the Ministry of Works living in Banda, Nakawa Division, and Efrayimu Mugerwa of Kawala in Rubaga. The crash also claimed the lives of Joshua Ebong, a man only identified as Kato, and an unidentified woman.
The Fuso driver, whose reckless driving caused the crash, ran away from the scene and has not yet been found. Police are actively searching for him and are asking the public to share any information that could help locate him.
People who rushed to the scene described it as shocking and heartbreaking. The taxi was badly damaged, twisted beyond recognition, and the cries of injured passengers filled the air. The five survivors were rushed to General Military Hospital in Bombo, where they are being treated for critical injuries.
The bodies of the six victims were taken to Luwero Hospital mortuary for post-mortem examinations.
This stretch of the Kampala-Gulu Highway is known for accidents, many of which are caused by reckless driving and dangerous overtaking. Police have again reminded all drivers to follow traffic rules and drive responsibly. They say today’s crash is another sad reminder of what can happen when road safety is ignored.
As the families of the victims mourn their loved ones, authorities are being urged to take stronger action to stop these deadly crashes and protect lives on Uganda’s roads.
