Your Voice Matters!! Special Interest Groups Elections Begin Across Uganda

The Electoral Commission has officially launched a crucial phase of the 2025/2026 General Elections Roadmap — the elections for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) Committees at Municipality and City Division levels. This marks an important opportunity for citizens, especially Youth, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Older Persons, to influence decisions that shape their communities.

Campaigns for all candidates kicked off on July 28 and will run until July 29. During this period, candidates are sharing their visions and priorities with the electorate, aiming to earn their trust and support. It’s also a key moment for voters to engage with potential leaders and understand who best represents their needs.

Voting follows immediately after the campaign period. On July 30, elections will be held for the Older Persons Committees. Polling for the PWDs Committees is scheduled for August 1, and elections for the Youth Committees will take place on August 4. These elections play a vital role in ensuring that the voices of special interest groups are included in Uganda’s broader governance landscape.

The Electoral Commission is calling on all eligible voters to take part in this democratic process and contribute to building stronger, more representative local leadership. Every vote helps ensure that the diverse needs of Uganda’s population are acknowledged and addressed.

As the 2025/2026 General Elections move forward, the SIGs elections stand as a key milestone toward a more inclusive and participatory democracy. Stay engaged, stay informed, and let your vote make a difference.
