Shaping Tomorrow’s Leaders!! EC’s Justice Byabakama Calls on UCU Students to Lead with Purpose and Peace

Uganda Christian University (UCU) Mukono was honored to host the Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, during a special General Assembly with Guild student leaders. In a heartfelt and inspiring address, Justice Byabakama urged the young leaders to become role models in their communities and to carry the values of peace, integrity, and purpose into every part of their leadership journey.

Justice Byabakama reminded the students that leadership is not just about holding a position, but about making a meaningful impact. He encouraged them to be active participants in electoral processes—within the university and in the country at large—always advocating for peace, fairness, and unity. Elections, he emphasized, should never be a source of conflict but a chance for voices to be heard respectfully and democratically.

He also spoke passionately about the importance of living with purpose. According to Justice Byabakama, the youth are not just the leaders of tomorrow—they are leaders today. He called on the students to take responsibility for their actions, to set positive examples for their peers, and to stay focused on building a better Uganda. True leadership, he said, begins with character—discipline, humility, and a commitment to serve others.

His visit left a strong impression on the student body. Many were encouraged to reflect on their roles, not only within UCU but in the wider society. Justice Byabakama’s message served as a powerful reminder that leadership is a calling that demands courage, vision, and a deep sense of responsibility.

UCU continues to be a nurturing ground for future leaders, and moments like these provide valuable inspiration. Through such engagements, students are reminded that they have a voice, a role, and a duty to shape their country’s future—starting with how they lead today.
