Job Scam in Kyankwanzi! Health Official Behind Bars for Conning Nurse Applicants
Authorities in Uganda are cracking down on job-related corruption, following the arrest of Tumusiime Julian, a secretary in the Kyankwanzi District Health Department, who now faces serious fraud charges. She has been dragged before the Kyankwanzi Magistrates Court on counts of obtaining money by false pretence and demanding money with threats.
According to the prosecution, Tumusiime allegedly took UGX 5 million from a hopeful nurse, falsely promising to secure her a job within the Kyankwanzi Local Government. What seemed like a golden opportunity for the victim quickly turned into heartbreak when the job never came through.
Investigations by the State House Anti-Corruption Unit, in collaboration with the CID and the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP), revealed that Tumusiime may be part of a wider job scam ring. Several other victims are believed to have been targeted, and her suspected accomplices are still on the run.
Tumusiime has been remanded to prison until 22nd July 2025 as inquiries continue. Authorities are calling on anyone else who may have been defrauded to come forward.
The case has stirred public concern about corruption within government recruitment processes. It also serves as a stark warning to public officials misusing their positions for personal gain, and a reminder that job desperation is being exploited by dishonest individuals.
Calls are growing louder for better transparency and stronger safeguards in hiring across public institutions to protect job seekers from such deceit.
