BREAKING NEWS!! Kamuli District MP Aspirant’s Husband Shot Dead in Political Drama

Kamuli District has been thrown into a state of fear and uncertainty following the fatal shooting of Sowedi Egumbye, husband to Sarah Auma, a candidate in the Kamuli District Woman MP race. The incident occurred late Wednesday night, just hours before the NRM party primaries, casting a dark cloud over the electoral process.

According to police, the violent confrontation took place around 11:00 p.m. at the home of Buzaaya County MP Martin Muzaale. A group believed to be associated with Auma’s campaign reportedly arrived in a convoy and forcefully rammed the gate to gain access to the property.

Busoga North Police spokesperson ASP Michael Kasadha confirmed that members of the group were armed with dangerous weapons, including pangas and hammers. Several individuals were injured in the clash, and police say the suspects attempted to flee when security forces arrived in response to an emergency call. Officers recovered the weapons at the scene during their operation.

Authorities suspect the incident may have been politically motivated, possibly intended to disrupt or influence the outcome of the upcoming primaries. The fact that the confrontation occurred well past the official campaign cutoff time has only intensified suspicions and fueled public concern.

Egumbye’s death has sparked widespread outrage, with local leaders and residents calling for calm, accountability, and a thorough investigation. Many in the community now worry that, without swift action, the district could experience further unrest during this heated political season.

In response, security has been significantly increased across Kamuli to ensure the safety of voters and candidates as the primaries proceed under growing tension. The tragedy serves as a stark reminder of the dangers that can accompany high-stakes political competition — and the urgent need for peaceful, transparent electoral practices in Uganda.
