“I Have Done My Part, It’s Time To Let Others Take On The Mantle” Finance Minister Matia Kasaija Announces Retirement from Politics, Requests For The Last Term
Uganda’s long-serving Finance Minister, Hon. Matia Kasaija, has officially declared that he will not be seeking re-election, signaling the end of his political career. Citing age and a desire for a quieter life, Kasaija confirmed that this will be his final term in public office.
After decades of dedicated service, particularly in steering Uganda’s financial and budgetary policies, the veteran minister says the time has come to step back. “I want to rest, take care of my farm, and drink milk,” he said with a smile, expressing his eagerness to embrace a peaceful, rural lifestyle.
Kasaija has been a central figure in Uganda’s economic management, having served through both prosperous and difficult periods. His leadership has been marked by resilience and commitment to national development. However, he now feels his journey in public service has reached its natural conclusion.
“I have done my part. It’s time to let others take on the mantle,” he said, emphasizing the importance of leaving office while still strong and capable.
His retirement marks the close of a significant chapter in Uganda’s political and financial history. Widely respected for both his professional contributions and humble demeanor, Kasaija will be remembered as a key architect of Uganda’s economic framework.
As he looks ahead to mornings on his farm and the simplicity of rural life, his departure serves as a poignant reminder that even those at the helm must one day make way for rest—and that sometimes, the greatest success is finding peace in nature’s quiet rhythm.
