Bugembe Cathedral Incident!! What Really Happened with Stuart Maganda, Church Speaks

On Wednesday, May 21, 2025, something unusual happened at Christ’s Cathedral Bugembe in Jinja. A 25-year-old man named Stuart Maganda shocked everyone when he climbed to the top of the cathedral roof. The situation quickly drew attention from church members, police, and the public.

According to a statement from the Cathedral, efforts by the Uganda Police and local Christians helped bring Maganda down safely. Thankfully, no one was hurt, including Maganda or the people who rescued him.

Church officials later revealed that Maganda has been struggling with mental health problems, which are believed to be caused by drug abuse. He is well-known in the Bugembe area, especially in Nakayonyi village where he lives, as someone with mental health issues. They believe his actions were not normal and happened because of his condition, which affects his judgment.

The Cathedral released this official statement to clear up confusion and false stories that were spreading on social media and in the news. They want everyone to know that the situation is now under control and steps are being taken to fix any damage caused during the incident.

The Dean of the Cathedral, The Very Rev. Canon Dr. Joy Mukisa Isabirye, encouraged the public, especially the Christian community, to stay calm. She reminded everyone of God’s promises in the Bible, saying, “No weapon formed against us shall prosper” (Isaiah 54:17), and “The Lord our God will never forsake us” (Hebrews 13:5).

Despite the shock of the incident, the church is staying strong in faith and quickly working to restore peace and order.
