“I Have Your Bodyguard & There Is Totally Nonthing You Can Do About It” Gen Muhoozi Mocks Bobi Wine
General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the son of President Museveni and head of the army, has said he is holding Eddie Mutwe, the main bodyguard of opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (also known as Bobi Wine).
Mutwe went missing a few days ago after people believed to be Special Forces Command (SFC) soldiers reportedly took him from Mukono. Now, Muhoozi has posted on social media saying Mutwe is locked in his basement.
Muhoozi claimed Mutwe is being forced to salute a picture of President Museveni every day and learn Runyankore, the President’s local language. He also posted a photo of Mutwe, partly undressed, and mocked Bobi Wine, who recently said he will run for president again in 2026.
Muhoozi warned, “I haven’t started. Next is Kabobi [Kyagulanyi]. If he insults my family again, Eddie will suffer more.” His comments have raised new fears about political threats and human rights abuse.
Kyagulanyi and Leader of Opposition Joel Ssenyonyi were the first to report Mutwe’s abduction. They said he was taken by force in a van, often used in past illegal arrests.
Police spokesperson Kituuma Rusoke said he didn’t know where Mutwe was, which caused more concern.
Mutwe has been targeted before, especially during election periods, because of his work with the opposition. His arrest happened around the same time police blocked an event at the National Unity Platform (NUP) offices, where the party planned to launch a campaign to get young people to vote.
This case, along with a recent attack on a Kampala police station by army soldiers, has made many Ugandans worry about rising violence and pressure on the opposition ahead of the 2026 elections.
