Kisoro By-Election Heats Up: 5 Contestants Vie for NRM Ticket
By Teddy Namayanja
The NRM Electoral Commission chairman, Dr. Tanga Odoi, today opened the nomination of NRM candidates to vie for the party flag ahead of the Kisoro district woman Member of Parliament seat by-election. The November by-election seeks to replace Hon. Sarah Mateke Nyirabashitsi who also served as state minister for defense.
The NRM party is gearing up for a competitive by-election in Kisoro district, following the passing of Hon. Nyirabashitsi. With the nomination process underway, five contestants have thrown their hats into the ring: Akifeza Grace Ngabirano, Dushime Sylvia, Igiraneza Winfred Faith, and Irankunda Jemimah. Dr. Tanga, confident in the NRM’s chances, asserts that the party will defend the Kisoro seat due to its strong support base.
To ensure a fair and transparent process, the NRM Electoral Commission has issued stern warnings against manipulation, divisive behavior, and violence. Any attempts to influence the outcome outside of established procedures will be met with firm resistance, and contestants engaging in such actions risk disqualification
As the party seeks to select a candidate who will “lead Kisoro forward,” Dr. Tanga has urged contestants to focus on their plans for the people, rather than dwelling on the past. This emphasis on forward-thinking leadership is crucial in this by-election.
