Captain Mike Mukula has offered a reward of Shs 10 million for information leading to the apprehension of the driver responsible for the fatal accident that claimed the life of former Moroto Municipality MP Simon Peter Aleper.

Aleper, aged 50, succumbed to severe injuries including a shattered body parts following a road accident on the Tirinyi-Iganga highway last week. The accident, involving an unidentified vehicle, resulted in Aleper’s death at the scene when his Toyota V8 was struck.

Aleper was laid to rest on Tuesday in his ancestral home in Loputuk Cell A, Kangole town council in Napak district. A police report presented at the burial by Mt Moroto Regional police commander Ahmed Badiri detailed how the unknown vehicle lost control and collided with Aleper’s Toyota V8, registration number UAP787Q, causing his immediate death.

The delay in identifying the vehicle and driver involved in the accident has sparked concerns among Karamoja leaders, who are questioning the effectiveness of security cameras along the highways.

During the burial, Mukula, who serves as the National Resistance Movement (NRM) party chairperson for the eastern region, announced the cash reward and called for public assistance in identifying the driver responsible. “If the cameras do not capture it, I am offering Shs 10 million as a reward for anyone who can help identify and ensure the arrest of the driver who caused the untimely death of this honorable son of Karamoja. We will not rest, and I urge anyone with information to come forward,” Mukula stated.

John Paul Kodet, the LC V chairperson of Napak district, emphasized the need for thorough forensic investigations to deliver justice for the people of Karamoja. Similarly, Peterken Lochap, MP for Bokora East in Napak district, insisted that the driver involved in the incident must be held accountable and punished for their reckless actions, pledging that the leaders would persist in pursuing justice
