VIDEO: If It Wasn’t Jesus, My Marriage Would Be No More – Singer Ronald Mayinja’s Wife Testifies

Having come from a staunch Muslim family, Aisha turned Usher Nakyeyune Mayinja accepted Jesus as her lord and savior in April 2010 – years after moving in with her then boyfriend singer Ronald Mayinja.

Usher who met Mayinja while in senior three says the duo started out as friends until her senior six vacation when the singer made his intensions clear and they started dating.

” Mayinja together with fellow musicians Misach Ssemakula and Goefrey Lutaya used to visit our neighbor who happened to be their bandmate. Back then I didn’t know they were singers since we weren’t allowed to watch TV or listen to radio at home. He started by appreciating the work I used to do for the neighbor whenever they came and he could tip me” narrated Asher during an interview on “Abadde Katonda” show hosted by DHM Media’s Alex Senono.

She added ” Slowly by slowly our friendship grew and he became more like a big brother who could give me counsel, offer me carrier guidance and push me to study harder. He made sure I had enough pocket money and shopping while at school although he never physically visited me there since he had become a household name.

Usher would later be admitted at Makerere University on government sponsorship after an excellent performance in Uganda Advanced Certificate of Education (UACE) exams.

It’s then that she decided to move in with her then boy friend Mayinja.

“When my parents found out, they became so furious. What made matters worse was my decision to go with a non muslim and a musician at the same time. They gave me an option to either go back home immediately or never return for good. I chose the later because of the strong bond I had with my husband. Due to the seriousness he exhibited in our relationship and support he gave me to complete my degree at Makerere University, he was enventually accepted in my family and in 2011 we held our “Kwanjula”

Salvation Journey

Through her big sister a one Nusulah who hails in London, Usher was introduced to several pastors in Kampala as she used to drive her (Nusulah) to their churches for prayers whenever she could come back to Uganda for holidays. Nusulah was the first person to get saved in their family before she left for London where she grew strong in faith. She could later start ministering to God.

Usher who at the time prayed from an Anglican Church together with her husband and children was left astonished by the manner in which she was welcomed and treated by the pastors her sister had introduced her to although her time to get saved was yet to come.

” I liked their characters and felt like I should join them. I wanted to ascertain the secret behind their life style. I wondered how they would embrace me the way I was. They preached the word of God to me whenever we could meet through their actions”

One day, as she had gone to pick her sister from now late Bishop Stephen Senfuma’s UCC church in Kasubi, Usher made a decision to accept Christ as her Lord and savior.

“After the service, my sister invited me to escort her to the Bishop’s office to bid him farewell as she was planning to go back to London. When we entered his office, there were only two chairs and the bishop offered me his chair and they brought him a plastic chair. This kind gesture also left me wondering how kind the man of God was. After talking to my sister, he turned to me and asked whether I too wanted to get born again, from no where I accepted and he prayed for me thereby kick-starting my journey into salvation” Said Usher

She was then introduced to a nearby church – Christ the rock worship center, Kabowa led by Pastor James Mwesigwa whom she says his convertion from Islam to Christianity encouraged her to also stand firm with her decision.

“He told me how he was a Muslim and was chased from home when he got born again but was later welcomed back. I told self that this was possible. The pastor taught me alot of things and made me love the path I had taken. Explained Usher

With time, Usher grew from being an ordinary church goer to a minister at the church as she served as an usher, intercessor and preacher among other roles.

Despite all that, Usher’s life style was yet to change.

“I would go to church every Sunday but what I did after wasn’t good at all. I thought what mattered was going to a born again church. During the course of the week, I would go out to clubs and attend all kinds of social events with sometimes my husband and other times friends.” She explains

In addition to that, Usher said she was experiencing a lot of challenges including unstable marriage and financial constraints among many others that would give her sleepless nights.

“I would be fighting battles with my husband’s family, tomorrow with my co-wives the other day with other people. I would cry every now and then. Today we would be having money and tomorrow be broke. Life was totally different from what was always portrayed in the media” revealed Mrs. Mayinja

How her life changed

Usher puts her salvation journey in two phases ie one where she was a born again only by name and doing whatever she wished to and the other where she went to another level of deliverance thereby allowing God to direct her path.

“A time reached and worse came to the worst. My marriage wasn’t working out, we were financially down and the children could get sick every now and then. I would tell all this to my sister in London and one day when I told her about a nightmare I had gotten, she referred me to Pastor Tom Mugerwa’s Mutundwe Christian Fellowship Church” She said

Usher added ” Around February 2018, I took a decision to go to Mutundwe and what I learnt there triggered me to first put every thing aside and purse Christ. I realised that although I was born again and a minister in church, I was still in bed with satan as my heart was rotten. It’s then that I realised that even lying is a sin. My heart was full of anger, pride, hatred, unforgiveness, hypocrisy and I was so jugdemental although I used to cover up all these and pretend to be a cool woman on the out side. When I learnt all these things, I went back home and closed myself in a room for three days and cried out to God in repentance of my sins and unrighteousness.

“From then on, I surrendered my whole life, my marriage, my children and finances among other things to Christ and asked Him to guide me in every thing I’m going to do. God started to talk to me through dreams, visions and the bible among other ways. God called me to preach his word especially to people who are living the kind of lifestyle I had to turn back to God” said Usher

What God has done for her

Usher says the first thing God did was to disassociate her from her old friends who she used to party with and also God started to fight all her battles.

“I used to be a party animal to an extent that I would some times borrow to make birthday parties for my friends in big hotels. But when I became committed to Christ, He cut me off from such friendships. When I fully surrendered my life to Christ, God also started to fight my battles that I nolonger had to fight any one like I used to.” She said

Mrs. Mayinja says she also started praying for her husband to get saved too a prayer that was answered during the popular 77 days of glory at pastor Robert Kayanja’s Miracle Center Cathedral.

“From that day on my husband changed positively. We are now able to pray together as a couple and also have a family alter where we involve our children. God has done amaizing things for us and is still doing more” She says, revealing that God has entrusted her with a women ministry where she prays for and with fellow women as well as preach the word of God to them which has led many to accept Christ as their Lord and savior.

“We have a group of about 200 women some from with in the country and abroad. We pray from people’s homes and share the audio recordings on our WhatsApp group. Through this ministry that I co-head with one of the female pastors from Mutundwe Christian Fellowship Church, many marriages that had been on verge of collapse have been restored, many single women have been married and others encouraged to remain steadfast in faith as they wait upon the Lord.” Explains Usher

Quoting Psalms 119 :71, Asher believes that all the hardships she went through in the past were preparing her for this great service of God.
