Just In!! Police Admit Guns Used in Masaka Coffee Robbery Were Theirs, Officers Arrested
The Uganda Police Force has officially confirmed that the two firearms used in the recent, high-profile Masaka coffee robbery were police-issued weapons. This admission has sparked widespread concern among the public regarding the accountability and weapon security within the force.
Speaking to journalists at Police Headquarters in Naguru, police spokesperson Kitumwa Rusoke acknowledged that the weapons used in the robbery were traced back to the police. “It’s true the guns used in the Masaka coffee robbery belonged to the police,” he stated. Rusoke explained that internal investigations revealed the guns were reported missing from police custody prior to the incident.
Following this discovery, the officers responsible for the missing firearms were arrested and charged. “We apprehended the officers who lost the guns, and they are currently on remand facing charges of criminal negligence,” Rusoke confirmed. He emphasized that the police are committed to holding their personnel accountable when it comes to safeguarding state-issued weapons.
Rusoke also issued a stern warning to all armed officers, reminding them of the critical responsibility they bear in securing their firearms. “A gun in the wrong hands can cause serious harm. Every officer must ensure their weapon is properly safeguarded at all times,” he cautioned.
The Masaka coffee robbery stunned the nation not only due to the crime’s audacity but also because of the level of planning involved. Now, with confirmation that police weapons were used, public trust in the force’s internal controls has been shaken. Many are questioning how the firearms fell into the hands of criminals and whether this incident signals deeper issues within the system.
As investigations continue, the public is calling for greater transparency and stronger safeguards to prevent such lapses in the future.
