“I Can Never Call My Father’s New Wife Mum” Says Sheilah Gashumba
Ugandan TV personality and influencer Sheilah Gashumba has made it clear that she will never call her father’s new wife “Mum.” However, she surprised many by saying that she hopes the couple will give her two new siblings.
She made this comment shortly after news broke that her father, Frank Gashumba, had officially been introduced to the family of his new partner, Patience Mutoni Malaika. The traditional Gusaba ceremony took place on Thursday, 15th May 2025, in Sembabule District.
Patience is believed to be around 26 years old, while Frank Gashumba is 50. This sparked a lot of conversation online, with many people pointing out the big age difference between them. Some wondered how a man in his fifties was now settling down with a woman who could be around the same age as his daughter.
As expected, Sheilah became part of the trending topic. Many people were curious to know how she felt about her father’s new relationship.
One of those people was popular media figure and politician, Simon Kaggwa-Njala. On Friday, he posted a tweet asking if Sheilah would now be calling Patience “Mum.”
Sheilah quickly responded in a light-hearted but firm way. She said that she could never use that word for anyone except her biological mother — the woman who gave birth to her. “Unfortunately I can’t. I will only call the woman who gave birth to me ‘mum’ so everyone must calm down,” she tweeted.
