Entebbe Airport Posts Impressive Growth in Passenger and Cargo Traffic

Uganda’s aviation sector continues to thrive, with Entebbe International Airport recording impressive passenger and cargo growth in September 2024. The airport welcomed a total of 188,710 passengers, marking a significant increase from the same period last year.

Arriving passengers accounted for 100,350, while departing passengers totaled 88,360, resulting in an average daily footfall of 6,290. This represents a notable 10.3% surge from September 2023’s daily average of 5,710.

The airport’s cargo handling capacity also saw substantial growth, with a total of 5,739 metric tonnes processed in September. Exports dominated the cargo segment, with 93,701 metric tonnes, while imports accounted for 2,038 metric tonnes.

This upward trend underscores Uganda’s growing importance as a regional hub for trade, tourism, and commerce. The airport’s expansion and modernization efforts, coupled with improved air connectivity, have contributed to this remarkable growth.

“Entebbe International Airport’s impressive performance is a testament to Uganda’s thriving economy and strategic location,” said Vianney Mpungu Lugya, The Public Relations Manage, CAA “We’re committed to continuously enhancing our facilities and services to meet the increasing demand.”

The growth in passenger numbers can be attributed to various factors, including:

Increased air connectivity: New routes and frequencies introduced by local and international carriers.

Tourism: Uganda’s natural attractions, such as national parks and Lake Victoria, continue to draw visitors.

Business and investment: Growing economic ties with neighboring countries and international partners.

As the airport continues to expand, it’s expected to play an even more critical role in Uganda’s economic development.
