Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) releases 2024 National Population and Housing Census results

The Uganda Bureau of Statistics (UBOS) is currently releasing the results of the 2024 National Population and Housing Census at Kampala Serena Hotel. This highly anticipated event follows the census exercise that took place from May 9 to 19, 2024, utilizing digital technology for efficient data collection and processing.
The Prime Minister of Uganda, Rt. Hon. Robinah Nabbanja, is the guest of honor. Other distinguished guests include members of Parliament, permanent secretaries, development partners, politicians, Private Sector, and representatives from civil society.
Representing the UN Family, Resident Coordinator Susan Ngongi Namondo, Ms. Gift Malunga, the UNFPA Representative, has hailed UBOS for a successful digital census and reaffirmed their dedication to collaborating with the government and other stakeholders. They aim to delve deeper into the census data, uncovering vital insights into Uganda’s demographic landscape.
Ms. Malunga, with her extensive experience in strategic management and policy development, has emphasized the importance of analyzing the census results to inform evidence-based decisions. This collaborative effort will enable the UN Family, government, and stakeholders to better understand Uganda’s population dynamics, identify trends, and address pressing development challenges.
“Timely release of this census results aligns perfectly with the global aspirations. This census results along with the recent surveys like the demographic surveys will be key in ensuring that all our decisions are evidence based and align to national priorities. It is also essential that these results are disseminated widely and fully utilized at all levels. My appeal to UBOS is to ensure these findings reach decision makers at the national and sub national levels “. Malinga said.
The release of the census results was officially launched by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni on June 27, 2024. The census exercise was conducted from May 9 to 19, 2024, using digital technology to collect, process, and disseminate the results.
