Makerere University Moves Government Sponsorship Applications Online for 2025/2026

In a bid to streamline the government sponsorship application process, Makerere University has announced that all applications for the 2025/2026 academic year will now be completed online. This shift marks a significant change in how students apply to public universities and other tertiary institutions across Uganda.

The university will be using the Academic Management Information System (ACMIS) application portal to allow school administrators to easily input and manage applicants’ data.

“The transition to an online platform is designed to make the application process more efficient and transparent for both students and administrators,” said Prof. Buyinza Muakadasi, the Academic Registrar of Makerere University.

The online application window will open on November 4, 2024, and will remain active until December 31, 2024. To ensure a smooth rollout, the university has scheduled virtual Zoom meetings for school administrators between October 1 and 4, 2024, followed by regional in-person meetings from October 14 to November 4, 2024.

Applicants will be required to pay a non-refundable application fee of UGX 52,000, which must be paid through a payment reference number generated by the system. The payment can be made at any bank authorized by the Uganda Revenue Authority.

“We have put measures in place to guide both students and administrators through the process. Detailed user guides, Zoom links, and other relevant information will be sent to the contacts already registered with the university,” Prof. Buyinza added.

More information about the new application process can be found on the Makerere University News portal. This online shift is expected to improve the efficiency and transparency of the government sponsorship application process for all public universities.
