New Leadership in Education: Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda Takes the PS Helm

In a significant reshuffle, President Museveni has appointed Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda as the new Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Sports. This announcement has been made public through a message from the Minister of Education and Sports, Mrs. Janet Museveni today.

Mrs. Museveni praised Dr. Turyagyenda, stating, “I congratulate Dr. Kedrace Turyagyenda on her appointment as the new Permanent Secretary.” This change follows the departure of Ketty Lamaro amid a reorganization of permanent secretaries. Dr. Jane Egau Okou has been serving in an acting capacity during the transition.

In her remarks, Mrs. Museveni expressed confidence in Dr. Turyagyenda’s ability to navigate current challenges in the education sector, including health concerns related to recent outbreaks. She emphasized the importance of providing a safe and nurturing environment for learners.

Highlighting Uganda’s achievements in sports, Mrs. Museveni looked forward to the President’s upcoming reception of medalists at the Teryet National High Altitude Training Centre. She also commended the progress made in preparations for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) and anticipated advancements in the Sports Bill amendment.

Dr. Turyagyenda brings a wealth of experience to her new role. Previously, she served as the Director of Education Standards in the Ministry of Education and Sports, where she was instrumental in implementing educational policies and standards. Before that, she held the position of Commissioner for Secondary Education Standards, focusing on quality education at the secondary level.

An active member of several educational governance bodies, Dr. Turyagyenda has contributed significantly to the field through numerous publications and presentations at international conferences, showcasing her expertise in education management.

Academically, Dr. Turyagyenda holds a Doctorate in Education Management from Nkumba University, a Master’s in Science from Leicester University in the UK, and both a Bachelor’s and a Diploma in Education from Makerere University, Uganda.

As Dr. Turyagyenda embarks on this new chapter, there is optimism for her leadership to inspire progress and innovation in Uganda’s education and sports sectors. Her extensive background and commitment to educational excellence position her well to address the challenges ahead.
