Uganda embraces environmental sustainability with electronic bus production.

In a campaign to preserve the environment, the government pledges to continue supporting Kiira Motors Corporation (KMC) with shs 32.5 billion to complete the vehicle plant in Jinja for production of electronic buses to embrace environmental sustainability.
This fund was located in the budget which was read yesterday June 13, 2024 by the Minister for Finance, Planning and Economic Development Honorable Matia Kasaija (MP) at Kololo ceremonial ground.
Kasaija mentioned that Kiira Motors has so far manufactured 39 buses of which 27 are electric and 12 are low-emission diesel. Where a batch of electronic buses was delivered on June 6th 2024. This gestures the efforts the government has put in the Science, Technology, and Innovation (STI) which is a key catalyst for the significant growth of our economy.

He added that Kiira Motors currently directly employs 168 people in engineering, production, marketing and sales, and finance and administration. He added that this number will increase to 600 once the plant in Jinja is fully operational which will also combat unemployment.
The President in his address said that the production of electronic cars and electronic boda bodas will solve air pollution puzzle and he stressed the need to produce competitive products in order to transform the country’s capacity to creat wealth.
“In order for the economy to grow, we need to be competitive in the products we produce. Our products and services must be cheaper and of better quality,than products from other countries.” Said Museveni
He assured the country to embark on the construction of the Standard Guage Railway from Malaba to Kampala and Kampala to Mpondwe and later to Gulu–Nimule. He added that the railway will transform Uganda’s capacity to create wealth. It will also save the roads from the destruction by the heavy trucks, cause less pollution and consume less fuel.
