Death toll rises in Mbale flooding

According to reports, at least 16 persons have died as a due of flooding and landslides caused by heavy  rain in the Bugisu and Sebei sub-regions.

11 bodies were discovered in a vehicle that was flashed into River Nabuyonga on Sunday morning. The deceased were travelling to an introduction ceremony before their vehicle was washed away by floods at the bridge

By Monday morning , 16 bodies had already been located. Rain fell continuously from Saturday at 11 p.m. through Sunday at 8 a.m.

Several portions of Mbale City were devastated by the floodwaters, which also destroyed bridges and washed away several homes, cars, and crops.

A landslide in Sebei’s Kapchorwa District’s Kapsinda Sub-county resulted in the death of a mother and her two children. At Kapchorwa Hospital, several victims were in critical condition.

Locals in Mbale City were running from the rushing waves as River Nabuyonga and Namatala burst the banks yesterday morning.

Additionally, Mbale-Soroti, Mbale-Tororo, and Mbale-Tirinyi were submerged by the floods, which halted traffic on the normally busy roads.

The wards of Nabuyonga, Nkoma, and Namakwekwe in the Northern City Division and Namatala in the Industrial City Division of Mbale City were the most severely impacted districts.

“It rained from Saturday night at 11 p.m. to Sunday morning.” 

Because the floods began at midnight, none of us ever slept, especially our neighbors in the lower half, heclaimed.

The Mbale Industrial Park, Livingstone University, Resort Hotel, and Shekinah Glory Christian  International School were all flooded.
