Lawyer Nkunyingi To EC: Release M7’s Academic Documents Or I Call For A Protest
Lawyer Muwada Nkunyingi has vowed to moblise Ugandans to protest against the electoral Commission for refusing to avail him academic documents of president Museveni.
On 21st August 2020, lawyer Nkunyingi wrote to the electoral commission seeking access to academic documents submitted to the commission by President Museveni for nomination in the 2016 presidential elections.
Adressing a press conference in Kampala today, the lawyer said todate, his request has not been granted and yet the same EC hurriedly released academic documents of presidential hopeful Robert Kyagulangyi following a request by lawyer Male Mabirizi.
“The access to information act gives the electoral commission 21 days with in which to have responded to that request. If the 21 days elapse, I will moblise all Ugandans and we shall match to the electoral commission to get the documents ourselves” threatened Nkunyingi.
He said the electoral commision set a precedent after it released the academic papers of Kyagulanyi another public leader with in three days of request and thus shouldnt refuse to do the same for president Museveni.
“The delay must be intesified I suspect by some order not to release them. But once the 21 days elapse, me and other willing Ugandans will protest this. It is our mandate as citizens to raise up and defend our constitution and rule of law” noted the lawyer
