Hoima Woman MP NRM Campaigns Halted Following The Assualt Of One Of The Candidates
The National Resistance Movement (NRM) has halted campaigns for the Hoima district woman MP primaries following the assault of one of the candidates that left her in comma.
Beatrice Wembabazi was allegedly beaten by supporters of her rival and incumbent Hoima woman MP Harriet Mugenyi Businge at Kiryatete village in Kigorobya sub-county last week as she returned from Runga landing site where she had gone to consult voters. Wembabazi is currently battling for her life at Mulago referral hospital’s intensive care unit.
While addressing a press conference at the NRM electoral commission (EC) offices in Kampala today, Tanga Odoi the party EC boss revealed that he has written to the Hoima district team stopping the campaigns.
“Our team is already on the ground to find satisfying evidence and if it is found to be true, we shall disqualify the candidate,” said Odoi.
He cautioned all candidates in the party primaries against mudslinging campaigns noting that whoever will be implicated for the same will be disqualified.
Odoi singled out Minister of Justice and Constitutional affairs and Sheema South MP Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu whose camp he said is accusing his rival Prof. Elijah Mushemeza of being COVID-19 positive.
He said Mushemeza was tested and found negative for COVID-19 after his driver was found postive for the virus thus warning his opponents to desist from using this against him or else be disqualified.
The NRM party primaries for MPs and district Chairpersons are scheduled for 4th September 2020.
