Police Officer Accidently Shoots Self While Handling Violent Youth
A police officer in Kampala metropolitan has shot and injured herself while handling a violent crowd in the ongoing village youth committe elections.
The incident happened today in Lufula Bwaise II Ward, Kawempe Division in Kampala.
Police Constable Betty Achom had loaded her gun and the bullet was already in the chamber when she accidentally touched the trigger and shuttered her left ankle.
According to Kampala Metropolitan police spokesperson Patrick Onyango, PC Achom is in good state receiving treatment at Mulago Hospital.
Meanwhile, Onyango says police and sister security agencies have today successfully provided security to voting venues for youth elections in Kampala Metropolitan area.
He said the exercise is generally peaceful except minor incidents of violence in some areas such as Mpererwe, Bwaise, Kisowera, Kawempe, Kyebando Nsoba, Kazo, Katabi, Bweyogere, Kiira, Kyaliwajjala and Kireka.
“Following chaos in same areas, elections were called off” he noted.
The police mouth piece appealed to the youth, political aspirants and general public to desist from using violence whenever they have issues.
