Government Invests shs 20 Billion In Oil And Gas Training
In a bid to prepare Ugandans for the oil and gas sector, government has invested over 20 billion shillings towards the upgrade of Uganda Petroleum Institute Kigumba and Uganda Technical College Kichwamba into centers of excellence for oil and gas training.
This morning, the ministry of education and sports on behalf of government signed two contracts with Sarrick Construction Limited and Ambitious Construction Company Limited which will execute this task.
Alex Kakooza the permanent secretary ministry of education and sports says the funds will specifically support civil works for training facilities and provision of training equipment.
He notes that the move is aimed at skilling Ugandans to be able to acquire jobs in the oil and gas sector in fullfillement of the contract the government of Uganda made with the oil companies.

Kakooza urged the contractors to deliver quality work but also observe strict timelines noting that the project is already behind the schedule.
“We are behind the schedule because these contracts should have been signed some one or two years back but we delayed for one reason or the other and we are running out of time, we don’t want to loose this money because as I have already stated, it’s feeding into a major government policy that Ugandans must get the skills to qualify to work in this industry” said Kakooza.
This investment comes through the Albertine Region sustainable development project which is funded by the world bank.
