EC Courts Digital Media For Support
The Electoral Commission (EC) has met online publishers and asked them to support it’s work owing to their wide and fast growing audiences.
EC chairman Justice Simon Byabakama Mugenyi told online editors and media owners that the Electoral body is alive to its constitutional obligation and the new phenomenon of protecting lives in the wake of COVID19 hence it’s new roadmap for a scientific election.
Byabakama says the carnival like nature of political rallies was a big headache for the commission and the ministry of health in redesigning the roadmap for 2021 polls.
He said the coincidence of an upsurge in the number of infections and critical timing of the general election that the constitution calls without any escape is duty.
Over 20 online publishers were at the commission this afternoon in a meeting preceded by one with talk show hosts.
