Just In!! Jamil Mukulu Finally Appears in Court After 5 Years Behind Bars

Jamil Mukulu, the man believed to be the former leader of the Allied Democratic Forces (ADF), appeared in Uganda’s High Court today. This was his first time in court in five years. He came with several other people who are also accused in the same case.

Mukulu and the group are facing many serious charges. These include terrorism, murder, attempted murder, aggravated robbery, and being part of a terrorist group. The charges are linked to deadly attacks that authorities say were carried out by the ADF, a rebel group that has caused violence in both Uganda and the Democratic Republic of Congo.

Today’s court appearance came after a long wait. Mukulu was arrested and sent back to Uganda from Tanzania in 2015. Since then, he has been in prison. For years, the case has been delayed, and the accused have stayed in jail without a trial. Human rights groups and lawyers have criticized how long it has taken for the case to move forward.

Security was very tight at the court. Heavily armed guards surrounded the area as Mukulu and the others were brought in. Officials said they are taking no chances because of how serious the charges are.

The hearing is an important step in this long-running case. Many people, including families of victims and international human rights groups, are watching closely. They want to see justice done—both a fair trial for the accused and accountability for those who were hurt or killed in the attacks.

This court session is expected to lead into the next phase of the trial. It could also influence how Uganda handles terrorism cases in the future and how the justice system deals with long delays.
