Just In!! Eddie Mutwe to Appear in Court After Week in Detention, See Full Details Below
Edward Ssebufu, also known as Eddie Mutwe, who is the chief bodyguard of National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi, is expected to appear this afternoon at Masaka High Court to face unknown charges.
Ssebufu was allegedly taken by security officers from Mukono District on April 27, 2025. He was kept in an unknown location for several days. It was only last week that Gen Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces and son of President Museveni, confirmed that Ssebufu had been held in his basement.
The Chairperson of the Uganda Human Rights Commission (UHRC), Mariam Wangadya, last week ordered Gen Muhoozi to release Eddie Mutwe, saying his detention was against the law. Today, Ssebufu, who looked weak and had trouble walking, was helped by two plain-clothed security officers as he limped into the court cells.
He is expected to be charged, but the offence has not yet been made public. Security officers who brought him to court did not allow journalists to speak to him or report on the case.
