South Sudanese Ruling Party leaders to be trained from Uganda.

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) and the Sudan People’s Liberation Movement (SPLM) have entered into a strategic cooperation agreement aimed at providing ideological training for leaders of the South Sudanese ruling party in Uganda. The agreement, reached on Saturday, underscores the NRM’s commitment to nurturing strong political partnerships across the region through its acclaimed National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi.

The high-level meeting that solidified this agreement was led by senior officials from both parties. The NRM delegation, which was spearheaded by Secretary General Rt. Hon. Richard Todwong and National Treasurer Ambassador Barbara Nekesa, engaged with their South Sudanese counterparts in a bid to strengthen political ties and share Uganda’s experience in ideological leadership.

Representing the SPLM was Comrade Bol Makueng Youl, the party’s Secretary for External Relations, alongside a formidable delegation including Dr. John Oryem, Secretary for Training and Research, Antipas Nyok Kucha, Deputy Principal of the SPLM Political School, and Dennis Marial Mourwel, Director of the Political Desk.

Speaking after the meeting, NRM Secretary General Todwong emphasized the importance of ideological training in fostering capable and visionary leadership across Africa. “We believe that by sharing our experiences and training methods, we can help strengthen the leadership capabilities of our South Sudanese brothers. This cooperation is a step towards building stronger regional integration and stability,” Todwong said.

Bol Makueng Youl lauded the agreement as a crucial milestone in the SPLM’s efforts to further equip its leadership with skills necessary to steer South Sudan’s political future. “Our collaboration with the NRM is a reflection of our shared vision for political leadership grounded in firm ideological principles. The training in Kyankwanzi will be pivotal for our party’s growth and the stability of our nation,” Makueng noted.

The agreement will see SPLM leaders undergo extensive training at the National Leadership Institute in Kyankwanzi, a facility that has long been a cornerstone of NRM’s political education and leadership development. The training will focus on instilling ideological discipline, fostering political education, and nurturing a new generation of leaders for South Sudan.

With this development, the NRM continues to expand its influence and solidify its role as a regional player in political development. The partnership between the two ruling parties is seen as a significant boost for relations between Uganda and South Sudan, with both countries striving to promote peace, stability, and development in the East African region.
