Rotary Uganda Launches the 4th Edition of the Africa Peace Concert to Raise $500,000 for Peace Building.
In a significant push for peace across the continent, Rotary Uganda has unveiled the 4th Edition of the Africa Peace Concert, slated for 10th January 2025. The concert, organized in collaboration with the Rotary Foundation, aims to raise $500,000 to promote peace building and conflict transformation initiatives across Africa.
The funds raised through this event will support the sustainability of the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre, which was inaugurated in 2020 and is the first of its kind on the continent. The center has since become a beacon of hope for peace and conflict resolution, providing education and training for individuals from 43 countries. The proceeds will also enhance the center’s ongoing efforts in fostering impactful community social change initiatives.
Joseph Nuwamanya, Chairman of the Africa Peace Concert 2025, expressed excitement about the upcoming event during a media briefing this morning. “This concert not only celebrates African culture and talent but also provides a platform to champion peace and conflict resolution across the continent. The funds raised will directly support the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre, enabling it to continue fostering important community social change initiatives,” Nuwamanya stated.

Since its inception, the Makerere Rotary Peace Centre has hosted 110 peace fellows from various countries including Botswana, Burundi, Cameroon, and Argentina. The peace fellows engage in a rigorous program aimed at addressing pressing issues like food security, women and girl child empowerment, refugee reintegration, and peace journalism.
The Africa Peace Concert has grown in prominence over the years, with the 2023 edition raising $234,555. Organizers are now setting their sights on surpassing this target for 2025. “We challenge ourselves to raise more this year,” Nuwamanya said. “By supporting this initiative, individuals and organizations are not only investing in education and leadership development but also in transforming lives across Africa.”
The 2025 concert promises an exciting lineup of renowned African artists and will broadcast to a global audience. With tickets priced at $100, a portion of the proceeds will go toward peace building efforts, making it both a cultural and philanthropic highlight.
Rotary Uganda’s efforts come at a critical time, as highlighted in the 2024 UN Secretary-General’s report, which underscores Africa’s ongoing peace and security challenges. By merging music, culture, and activism, the Africa Peace Concert continues to inspire a global movement for peace.
