The National Unity Platform (NUP) has threatened to take legal action against the government of Uganda, accusing them of negligence managing waste at Kiteezi landfill leading to a tragedy, where more than 30 lives were lost. Mr. Joel Senyonyi the Spokes Person of NUP made the communication earlier today while visiting the victims in Kiteezi.

They want KCCA officials incharge of waste management prosecuted. “ this was not an accident we warned about the risks of the land fill then on the floor of Parliament but as usual the Prime Minister just made a mear statement about the matter its unfortunate that no one has be held accountable so far and these people are wondering if there lives matter,” Ssenyonyi questioned.

While Ssenyonyi acknowledged that no amount of money or material compensation can replace the lives lost, it’s only fair that government considers helping these affected families start over again.

The aid relief donated by NUP included branches of Matooke, 3 tones of Maize flour, a water tank, boxes of Soap, fire wood, and pads among others.

Other agencies and companies that have given relief since the unfateful day and these include Stabex,Mukwano,Phaneroo Ministry etc

Meanwhile the issue of poor waste management continues to trigger debate and attract criticism from politicians, donors, activists and Ugandans at large.
