The Democratic Party (DP) president Norbert Mao has warned party members against supporting candidates from other political parties in the forthcoming general elections.

Mao says those whose favorite candidates are in other political parties should join those parties rather than remaining in DP while not supporting it’s candidates.

“We don’t want candidates who impose themselves on candidates for various posts from other political parties to gain support. As the party National Executive Committee we have put a red line, if you are ashamed of DP get out of it. We rather remain few in number but committed to the party.” Said Mao

He made the remarks today at an event to officially unveil Charles James Ssenkubuge as the party flag bearer for Kampala Lord Mayor in the 2021 general elections held at the party officers at Balintuma Road in Kampala.

Ssenkubuge was nominated yesterday by the independent electoral commission for the Kampala Lord Mayoral race after the commission rejected Beatrice Kayanja for not fulfilling the set requirements.

Speaking at the event, Ssenkubuge who was selected on short notice expressed determination and readiness to win the race.

Once given the mantle, Ssenkubuge pledged to work tirelessly to resolve some of Kampala’s long standing issues including traffic jam and poor waste management among others.

He condemned leaders who instead of working for people that elected them into power resort to fights and praising other cities which he said were developed because of their leaders’ commitment.

“Who made Kigali what it is? It’s the people of Kigali that made it what it is and it’s the people of Kampala who are supposed  to make it what it should be.” Said Ssenkubuge

Some of the DP parliamentary flag bearers that were also unveiled at the event held at the party head offices on Balintuma Road, Kampala today

Ssenkubuge will tussle it out with the incumbent Erias Lukwago (Forum for Democratic Change) National Resistance Movement’s Daniel Kazibwe aka Ragga Dee, National Unity Platform’s Nabilah Nagayi Ssempala and Joseph Mayanja better known as Jose Chameleon (independent) who have also been nominated to run for the same seat.
