The wife of jailed National Unity Platform (NUP) Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro, has passed away.
Edith Katende Nabunya died in the early hours of Wednesday, shortly after 3:00 a.m., following a prolonged battle with cancer.
Her death was announced by NUP President Robert Kyagulanyi Ssentamu, also known as Bobi Wine, via his X (formerly Twitter) account.
“It is with a heavy heart that I announce the passing of our dear sister and comrade, Edith Katende Mufumbiro, the wife of our Deputy Spokesperson, Alex Waiswa Mufumbiro,” he stated.
Kyagulanyi noted that Nabunya passed away while her husband remains in detention.

“At the time of her passing, her dear husband, Waiswa, remains detained at Luzira Upper Prison. His only crime is speaking out against injustice and misrule,” he added.
Mufumbiro, a vocal member of the opposition party NUP, is currently on remand.
Nabunya’s passing has sparked an outpouring of sympathy from NUP supporters and the general public, with many expressing concern for the family during this difficult time.
Burial arrangements are expected to be communicated by the family and party officials.
