The Electoral Commission of Uganda has announced important changes to the schedule for upcoming regional conferences, which are part of preparations for the 2025/2026 General Elections. Initially, these conferences were planned to take place in August, but after consultations with key stakeholders, new dates have been set to ensure wider participation and smooth conduct of the elections.

The first adjustment concerns the election of regional non-unionized workers’ delegates to the national level. These elections, initially scheduled for Monday, 25th August 2025, will now be held on Monday, 1st September 2025, in the Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western regions. This change allows all eligible participants sufficient time to prepare and engage in the process.

Similarly, the elections for regional delegates to the National Council for Older Persons have been moved. Originally set for Wednesday, 27th August 2025, these conferences will now take place on Friday, 26th September 2025. The rescheduling is expected to improve organization and participation among older persons who play a crucial role in community leadership.

In addition, the elections for the National Youth Committees have also been rescheduled. Initially planned for 27th to 29th August 2025, they will now take place from 1st to 3rd October 2025. This adjustment aims to ensure that young people, who represent the future of Uganda, can actively participate and make their voices heard at both regional and national levels.

The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, called on all stakeholders to take note of the new dates and participate actively in the regional conferences. He emphasized that these exercises are essential for free, fair, and transparent elections, highlighting the importance of following the guidelines that will be issued by the Commission.

These adjustments reflect the Commission’s commitment to inclusive, well-organized, and credible electoral processes. Stakeholders are encouraged to mark their calendars and engage fully, ensuring that all voices—workers, older persons, and youth—are represented in shaping Uganda’s democratic future.
