In a bold and unexpected message shared on his Twitter account, General Muhoozi Kainerugaba announced that he has fully forgiven General David Tinyefuza, also known as Sejusa.
For years, the two military figures have been on opposite sides of a bitter divide, with Tinyefuza often criticizing Muhoozi and his role in the army and politics. Now, Gen. Muhoozi says he has let go of the pain caused by his longtime rival and is ready to meet him in person.
“I have made peace in my heart with General Tinyefuza,” Muhoozi posted. “After all the injury he heaped on me for many years, I forgive him. I will meet him, under the supervision of the Commander-in-Chief in exactly 2 weeks!”
This statement has created a buzz across Uganda, with many people praising the act of forgiveness and looking forward to what this unexpected reunion could mean. The Commander-in-Chief, President Yoweri Museveni, is expected to oversee the meeting, which adds even more significance to the occasion. Some observers believe this could signal the start of a new chapter in Uganda’s political and military landscape.
The rivalry between Gen. Muhoozi and Gen. Tinyefuza has been well known for years. Tinyefuza, once a powerful insider in the government, later became a strong critic and went into self-imposed exile. Meanwhile, Muhoozi continued to rise through the ranks, gaining influence and becoming one of Uganda’s most prominent military figures. Their public disagreements and political differences have kept them apart for a long time.
But now, Muhoozi’s words suggest a shift toward peace and reconciliation. His decision to forgive, despite the public insults and personal attacks he faced, has been described by some as a sign of maturity and leadership. Others see it as a strategic step, possibly aimed at building unity ahead of future political developments.
Whether this meeting will lead to a full restoration of their relationship or just a peaceful handshake remains to be seen. What’s clear, however, is that this is a moment that many Ugandans did not expect—and one that could help heal old wounds and set an example for others.
