Uganda’s Electoral Commission has reaffirmed its commitment to transparency and international cooperation as preparations intensify for the 2025/2026 General Elections. In a move aimed at strengthening diplomatic ties and building confidence in the electoral process, the Commission met with Ambassadors and Heads of Diplomatic Missions accredited to Uganda.
The briefing took place at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Kampala, bringing together envoys from various countries and international organizations invested in Uganda’s democratic progress. The goal was to update them on key developments and outline the roadmap leading up to the elections.
Electoral Commission Chairperson Justice Simon Byabakama led the session, highlighting major milestones already achieved, including the successful update of the national voters’ register, ongoing preparations for candidate nominations, and the scheduling of other electoral activities. He also detailed the Commission’s plans for the months ahead, culminating in the elections scheduled for early 2026.
This diplomatic engagement underscored the Commission’s dedication to holding credible and peaceful elections. Diplomats welcomed the open dialogue and praised the opportunity to gain firsthand insights into the electoral preparations.
The meeting forms part of the Commission’s broader strategy to foster transparency, build trust, and engage both domestic and international stakeholders in Uganda’s democratic journey.
