General Muhoozi Kainerugaba, the Chief of Defence Forces, recently chaired an important meeting of the UPDF Joint Staff Committee. This committee brings together the top leaders of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces, including the Deputy Chief of Defence Forces, Service Chiefs, Division Commanders, and Chiefs of Staff of various UPDF branches. The meetings are held regularly, at least once a month, to discuss matters that are vital for the country’s security.
The meeting took place at the Special Forces Command headquarters in Entebbe. Key generals in attendance included Lt Gen Sam Okiding, Deputy CDF and Inspector General; Lt Gen Kayanja Muhanga, Commander of Land Forces; Lt Gen Charles Okidi, Air Force Commander; Lt Gen Jack Bakasumba, Chief of Joint Staff; Maj Gen David Mugisha, Commander of the SFC; and Maj Gen Richard Otto, Chief of Defence Intelligence and Security.
During the meeting, the UPDF leaders reviewed the current national security situation and assessed ongoing international deployments. These operations include missions in the Central African Republic, Democratic Republic of Congo, Somalia, and South Sudan. The discussions highlighted the UPDF’s dedication to maintaining peace and stability in Uganda while also supporting regional security efforts.
The gathering reinforced the army’s focus on strategic planning, coordination across all services, and readiness to respond to any threat. By bringing together its top commanders, the UPDF ensures it is prepared to protect the nation and continue contributing to peace and stability across the region.
