In a determined bid to combat rising crime and reinforce public safety, the Kampala Metropolitan Police, in collaboration with the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF) and Crime Intelligence Units, have executed a series of coordinated security operations across Kampala, Mukono, and Nansana. Conducted between July 21 and July 22, the operations resulted in the arrest of more than 200 individuals.
During the early morning hours of July 21, between 11:00 PM and 3:40 AM, security forces stormed several areas in Mukono—namely Namuyenge village, Nabuti zone, and Bajjo zone. These nighttime raids led to the arrest of 24 suspects involved in activities such as opium use, ambushing pedestrians, and committing robberies. The detainees are currently held at Mukono and Seeta police stations.
Later that morning, at approximately 10:00 AM, another operation unfolded in central Kampala. Guided by intelligence and supported by local leaders, officers targeted individuals disguising themselves as street children, bottle collectors, and casual workers—many of whom were allegedly preying on unsuspecting citizens. Areas like Kiseka, Nakasero, Old Taxi Park, and Kampala Road were thoroughly swept, resulting in the arrest of 167 suspects. These individuals were transferred to CPS Kampala for charging and detention.
The following night, July 22, a separate operation was launched in the Nansana area, focusing on known criminal hubs. Authorities apprehended 11 suspects and confiscated opium-related exhibits. These individuals are being charged with offenses tied to illegal narcotic possession.
According to police, these crackdowns mark the beginning of a broader initiative aimed at cleaning up urban crime zones and enhancing public safety. Security agencies are urging the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious behavior as efforts to restore peace and order continue citywide.
