Day 2 of the Regional Sittings: Parliament hails President Museveni for his Leadership.

Parliament has hailed the leadership of President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni in securing peace in Northern Uganda, particularly in areas of Acholi, Lango, West Nile, and Karamoja. This was during todays sittings, in a motion presented by Kazo County MP, Dan Kimosho seconded by Catherine Lamwaka, MP for Omoro District, which highlighted President Museveni’s visionary leadership of the Uganda People’s Defence Forces (UPDF).

“Under President Museveni’s visionary leadership, the UPDF has effectively combated rebel activities in Northern Uganda,” Kimosho said.

It should be remembered that during the Lord’s Resistance Army (LRA) conflict 1986-2007, there was severe humanitarian abuses which included deaths of thousands of civilians, child abductions, sexual violence, and mass displacements among others in the Northern Region.

Kimosho says UPDF under the stewardship of Preseident Museveni, has been at the center of addressing these challenges. The Kimosho motion also hailed President Museveni’s effort in securing peace and stability beyond Ugandas boarders.

“President Museveni has actively pursued the remnants of the LRA and contributed to regional stability in neighboring countries such as South Sudan, Somalia, and the Democratic Republic of Congo,” he said.

The legislators are now calling for more effort in addressing issues of mental health and overall well-being of the children who returned from captivity and those born during the conflict.

“We want to put Northern Region at the level of other Regions, as Parliament of Uganda, our focus now is on Northern Region. Much as the peace has come, but we want the peace in the pockets to also be there.” The speaker of Parliament Anita Among noted.

Parliament is hoping to have better dialogue and engagement with stake holders through the Parliamenatary Regional Sittings Initiative.
