Government has resolved to relocate Kiteezi Land Fill affected families to Dundu – Mukono and also manage garbage at Menvu site.
The resolution was passed earlier today in a meeting chaired by the First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister for foreign affairs Rt. Hon. Rebecca Alitwala Kadaga, at the Office of the Prime Minister in Kampala.
“I want to assure you that government is in full control of the situation. We’re going to start relocating all the affected families to Dundu as we manage waste at Menu”, Kadaga said.
This follows halting of dumping garbage in Katabi Town Council near Entebbe International Airport.
A few days ago, Entebbe Municipality Mayor Rulinda Fabric Brad raised concerns over the menace that had been created by the garbage that was being dumped there saying, this had affected the operations of Entebbe International Airport.
“We had only offered temporaly solution to the problem but this place is now being turned into a garbage dumping site which compromises the operations of the airport”, Rulinda noted then.

The meeting was attended by several Ministers, Mayors, Chief Administrative Officers, Town Clerks and Development Partners.
Since the fateful day of the Kiteezi tragedy, government has been under pressure from politicians, legislators, activists and Ugandans at large among others, to come up with solutions to address the apparent garbage management challenges in Kampala Metropolitan area.
Government is also working on a National Garbage Management Plan that will be rolled out in other cities and towns to avoid re-occurance of the Kiteezi disaster.
The Executive Secretary Planning and Civil Works at KCCA,John Mary Ssebuwufu told the meeting that Kampala City Council is facing challenges of under funding.
Meanwhile, the death tolls remain at 36 and rescue operations were halted temporarily yesterday.
