The Uganda Civil Aviation Authority’s (UCAA) recent Safety Week activities at Entebbe International Airport sent a strong message: safety is everyone’s responsibility. The event, held from November 11-15, 2024, brought together stakeholders to promote a culture of safety through safety talks, presentations, themed messages, and safety drills
Director General Mr. Fred K. Bamwesigye proudly shared Entebbe International Airport’s impressive safety record, achieving 72.2% in the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) September 2023 audit. This feat demonstrates the power of collaboration among airport operators, airlines, and service providers.
The importance of safety in the aviation industry is to ensure the protection of human lives and valuable assets such as aircraft. Effective training programs instill a safety-centric mindset in trainees, equipping them with the skills and knowledge to avoid potential risks and prevent accidents.
“Regular programs enhance risk management, improve emergency response, boost confidence, and optimize efficiency”. Fred. K. Bamwsigye, Director General, UCAA said.
Entebbe International Airport has been ramping up its safety and operational efficiency through several key initiatives. These among others include;
- Enhanced Safety Measures: Regular safety audits and drills are conducted to identify and mitigate potential risks, ensuring a proactive approach to emergency preparedness.
- Stakeholder Training: Collaborative training programs for stakeholders, including airlines and service providers, promote a culture of safety and cooperation.
- Cutting-Edge Technology: Investments in state-of-the-art safety technology enhance the airport’s ability to detect and respond to security threats.
- Continuous Monitoring: Safety protocols are constantly evaluated and updated to address emerging risks and improve overall safety performance.
Additionally, the airport has undergone significant upgrades, including the strengthening of runways, taxiways, and parking aprons, as well as the construction of a new terminal building and cargo center.
