“I Will Not Let Tycoons Like Ham Take Over Kampala” – Lukwago Pledges to Defend City Land

Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago has delivered a firm warning to wealthy tycoons attempting to seize control of land in the city. Speaking at his campaign launch yesterday, Lukwago made it clear that businessmen like Ham Kiggundu, Drake Lubega, and Kitandwe will not be allowed to dominate the capital.

“I won’t accept Ham Kiggundu and other tycoons taking over every piece of land in Kampala. I will not accept living in a city owned by a few brokers working for government mafias,” Lukwago declared, underscoring his commitment to protect Kampala’s land from monopolization.

The Lord Mayor accused these businessmen of not acting independently but on behalf of powerful government-backed networks, which he described as “mafias.” He voiced concern over their growing influence in the city’s real estate and development sectors.

Lukwago emphasized that his fight is for ordinary citizens, aiming to keep Kampala accessible and livable for everyone rather than controlled by a handful of wealthy investors. “Never will I allow the likes of Ham Kiggundu to take full control of Kampala City,” he asserted.

During the launch, Lukwago said his administration would enforce strict measures to regulate land deals and prevent exploitation. “Any attempt to monopolize land in the city will face strong resistance from the local government,” he warned.

His speech struck a chord with many residents worried about rising land prices and property concentration among a few tycoons. Lukwago positioned himself as a defender of the people against corporate and government-backed interests.

As the 2026 elections approach, Lukwago’s vow to fight land grabbing is expected to be a central campaign theme. Citizens and political observers are closely watching to see how his promises will influence Kampala’s land policies and governance in the coming years.
