Electoral Commission Shifts Dates for Key Delegate Elections

The Electoral Commission of Uganda has announced new dates for some of the upcoming regional delegate elections ahead of the 2025/2026 General Elections. The changes come after consultations with stakeholders, with the aim of allowing more time for preparation and participation across the country.
Originally, the Regional Conferences to elect non-unionised workers’ delegates to the national level were set for Monday, 25th August 2025. However, these have now been postponed to Monday, 1st September 2025. The elections will be held in all four regions—Central, Eastern, Northern, and Western.
The Commission also shifted the elections of delegates for the National Council for Older Persons. Instead of Wednesday, 27th August 2025, the new date has been set for Friday, 26th September 2025. This will give councils and participants more time to prepare and ensure that older persons are fully represented in the democratic process.
In addition, the National Youth Committee elections will no longer take place between 27th and 29th August 2025 as earlier announced. They will now be conducted from 1st to 3rd October 2025. This change underscores the Commission’s commitment to giving the youth adequate time and space to take part in shaping the future of Uganda.
The Chairperson of the Electoral Commission, Justice Byabakama Mugenyi Simon, called on all stakeholders to take note of the new dates and prepare accordingly. He urged workers, older persons, youth representatives, and community leaders to fully participate in the conferences, while strictly following the guidelines that will be provided by the Commission.
These adjustments mark another step in Uganda’s journey toward the 2025/2026 General Elections. By rescheduling these activities, the Electoral Commission aims to ensure fairness, inclusivity, and active participation of all groups in the national decision-making process.
