All Roads Lead to Kololo as NRM Prepares for High-Stakes Leadership & Election Summit

The National Resistance Movement (NRM) is set to hold a crucial national conference that could define Uganda’s political landscape ahead of the 2026 general elections. According to an official notice, the 1st Meeting of the 4th National Conference of the NRM will take place from 27th to 28th August 2025 at the Kololo Independence Ceremonial Grounds in Kampala. The event will be held under the forward-looking theme: “Building a Shared Prosperity: Investing in Uganda’s Future.”

This key gathering will bring together senior party leaders, delegates, and members from across the country to deliberate on major issues and elect top party officials. The conference will begin with a keynote address by the NRM National Chairman, President Yoweri Kaguta Tibuhaburwa Museveni, setting the tone for the two-day event. It will be followed by a presentation from the Secretary General, who will deliver a comprehensive report on the party’s activities and achievements.

A major highlight of the conference will be the presentation of recommended candidates for top leadership positions in the Central Executive Committee. These positions include the National Chairperson, 1st and 2nd National Vice Chairpersons (with the 2nd Vice Chair reserved for a female candidate), and six Vice Chairpersons representing the regions of East, Central, North, West, Kampala, and Karamoja. After the candidates campaign, delegates will vote to elect the new team that will steer the party forward.

Another highly anticipated item on the agenda is the nomination and confirmation of the NRM’s Presidential Candidate for the 2026 elections. The National Executive Committee will present its recommendation, and delegates will vote to pass a resolution officially endorsing the candidate. Once elected, the flag bearer will address the conference, symbolizing the party’s readiness to face the 2026 election season.

The conference will close with the singing of national anthems and formal adjournment. Throughout the event, the NRM’s guiding principles—Patriotism, Pan-Africanism, Socio-economic Transformation, and Democracy—will be at the heart of every discussion and decision made.

This conference is more than a routine party meeting—it marks a turning point in the NRM’s journey and Uganda’s political future. With leadership elections and a presidential endorsement on the line, the Kololo Grounds will become the center of national attention as the ruling party charts its course for 2026 and beyond.
