The Electoral Commission (EC) has entered the next important phase of the 2025–2026 General Elections. This week, elections for Special Interest Groups (SIGs) are being held across the country. These elections are for Older Persons, Persons with Disabilities (PWDs), and Youth Committees.
The EC has released a clear schedule. On Monday, July 14, elections for Older Persons Committees are taking place. This will be followed by elections for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) Committees on Wednesday, July 16. Finally, on Friday, July 18, the Youth Committees will choose their leaders.
All these elections are happening at Sub-county, Town Council, and Municipal Division levels. The Commission has reminded all participants, voters, and candidates to take part peacefully and lawfully. They urge everyone to show respect, avoid conflict, and uphold the values of democracy.
These SIG elections are an important part of Uganda’s electoral process. They give a voice to groups that often face challenges in representation. By allowing older persons, persons with disabilities, and the youth to elect their own leaders, Uganda continues to promote inclusion and fairness in its democracy.
The Electoral Commission has promised to continue guiding the public throughout the election period. Citizens are encouraged to stay informed, follow the roadmap, and participate in shaping the future of their communities.
Let’s vote with peace, respect, and unity—because every voice matters.
