Electoral Commission’s Official Message to Youth Voting in Parish Committee Elections Today

Today marks a significant moment for the youth of Uganda as they participate in the parish-level youth committee elections taking place in over 10,595 parishes across the country. This exercise plays a vital role in promoting youth leadership and strengthening grassroots representation in national development.

According to the Electoral Commission, only youth who were successfully elected to village youth committees are eligible to take part in today’s vote. These village-level committee members form the electoral college that will convene at their respective parishes to elect nine representatives who will serve on the parish youth committee.

The Commission has emphasized that youth who are not members of the village committees are not permitted to participate in this election. This ensures a clear and organized process. The candidates vying for various leadership positions were already nominated during an earlier stage. In line with the youth electoral system, today’s voting will be conducted through lining up behind the preferred candidate, their poster, symbol, or agent—an open and straightforward method that allows quick vote counting and transparency.

Delivering the official message, Mr. Julius Muchunguzi, spokesperson of the Electoral Commission, urged all participants to approach the elections with peace, respect, and responsibility. He reminded the youth that elections are not a war, and political differences should not lead to division or conflict. Supporting different candidates or political parties does not make others enemies—it simply reflects diversity in opinion. The Commission calls on the youth to remain united in purpose, civil in conduct, and respectful of one another.

Voting will be conducted from 9:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. Prior to the election, officials from the Electoral Commission will hold voter education sessions, guiding participants on procedures, rules, and expectations to ensure an orderly and informed process.

In closing, the Electoral Commission sends its best wishes to all eligible youth voters. This is not only a day of choosing leaders but also a moment to demonstrate patriotism, unity, and peaceful civic engagement. The youth are encouraged to carry out their duties with integrity, setting a positive example for the future of Uganda.

For God and My Country.
