What You Missed At Rajiv Ruparelia’s Cremation!! Father Sudhir Ruparelia Weeps Painfully As He Says Good Bye To Rajiv As Body Gets Burnt To Ashes

A calm and respectful atmosphere filled Kampala on Tuesday, May 6, 2025, as family members, friends, and invited guests gathered at the Hindu Crematorium in Lugogo to say their last goodbyes to Rajiv Ruparelia. Rajiv was the only son of well-known businessman Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia.

Rajiv, who was 35 years old, died on Saturday, May 3, in a tragic car accident near the Busabala Flyover in Wakiso District. He was driving a Nissan GTR at high speed when the car hit pavement barriers, overturned, and caught fire. Sadly, he died in the crash.

The farewell started with a procession from the Ruparelia family home in Kololo to the crematorium in Lugogo. Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia was among those who helped carry the coffin to the hearse. At the crematorium, Hindu priests led traditional prayers and rituals. Emotions ran high, and the family members were visibly heartbroken, especially during the final moments of the ceremony.

Many important people came to pay their respects, including former Prime Minister Amama Mbabazi and the Speaker of Parliament, Anita Among.

Rajiv was the Managing Director of the Ruparelia Group, a company that works in several industries such as real estate, hotels, schools, and banks. Besides business, Rajiv was passionate about rally driving. He even started the Rajiv Ruparelia Rally Team to promote motorsport in Uganda.

His sudden death has sparked conversations about road safety in the country. People are now paying more attention to the Najjanankumbi–Busabala road project, which is being handled by China State Construction Engineering Corporation.

At the end of the cremation ceremony, many tributes were shared. Business leaders, politicians, and ordinary Ugandans spoke about Rajiv’s hard work, energy, and kindness. Many appreciated the way he helped others and supported community causes.

Rajiv’s contributions to business and sports in Uganda will likely be remembered for a long time.

He died in a fatal accident after his car crashed into temporary road barriers at the Munyonyo flyover roundabout. He had been traveling from Kajjansi towards Munyonyo when the accident happened.

News of his death shocked many Ugandans, who expressed their grief and shared their memories of him on social media. Many thanked him for his generosity and for helping those in need.

His father, Dr. Sudhir Ruparelia, mourned his son and spoke about his unique personality. Although Rajiv was the son of a famous businessman, he liked to do things his own way.

Dr. Sudhir shared a touching memory from Rajiv’s childhood. He recalled how, at just five years old, Rajiv would carry a small briefcase filled with chocolates. Whenever he attended business meetings with his father, he would open the briefcase and eat the chocolates during the meeting.

Sudhir said:
“When he was five, I would take him to meetings. I bought him a briefcase, which he carried everywhere. He filled it with chocolates. While I was in meetings, he would open his briefcase and quietly eat his chocolates. These are some of the best memories I have of you, my son.”
