In what appears to be the latest verbal war in the National Resistance Movement (NRM), two top leaders in the party’s Central Executive Committee (CEC) are at loggerheads over political expediencies.
NRM Secretary General Justine Kasule Lumumba through her lawyers Anguria and Co. Advocates wrote to captain Edward Francis Babu a former MP and now CEC vice chairperson for Kampala asking him to make a public apology over remarks he made while appearing on NBS TV’s Barometer show on Tuesday.
Babu accused Lumumba of sponsoring members of the National Unity Platform(NUP) party against NRM flagbearers in elective positions.
Lumumba says such remarks were “false, defamatory and malicious designed to irritate her inflame public anger and resentment towards her” the letter by her lawyers reads.
Babu was warned alongside NBS Television with demands that the said accusations be retracted with a public apology or the matter is taken to court.
An online news portal Trusted News Uganda quoting a phone conversation with Babu said the Kampala political flop said he would opt for court action over a public apology.
Efforts to reach NRM Secretary General for a comment were futile as our calls were not picked for a whole day.
She later appeared on NBS TV’s Frontline show on Thursday but avoided commenting on her emerging rift with Kampala’s perennial political loser.
Babu now blames his failure in recent elections on the woman from Bugiri who she alleges is in secret contact with Robert Kyagulanyi’s NUP against her own party which sounds ironical.
Babu stood in the recent elections to represent the elderly but lost before his wife and former EALA Speaker Margaret Nantongo Zziwa who stood for MP Nakawa could lose to NUP’s Joel Ssenyonyi.
In a trinity of failures their son Cedric Babu who also contested for MP Kampala Central lost to Independent Mohammed Nsereko.
Babu and his wife have been losing elections since 2006, a misfortune he now blames on the NRM Secretary General Kasule Lumumba.
NRM Central Executive Committee is embroiled in another egoistic contest between Rebecca Kadaga and Jacob Lokori Oulanyah that the oldman with a hat has sought to resolve. He will be over stretched with the latest Lumumba – Babu rift that pities both CEC members.
