President Yoweri Museveni who is also the National Chairman of the Electoral Commission has directed that all National Resistance Movement (NRM) members with cards but are not in the party register should be allowed to vote in tomorrow’s primary elections for parliamentary aspirants.
In a letter dated 2nd September 2020, president Museveni directs that any NRM member whose name is not in the party register be immediately added to the register and should be permitted to vote if that person is 18 years and above.
He asked that village executive committees should verify that the person added to the register is a member of the NRM in that village and that where there are no registers the village committee should verify and register all members eligible to vote.
In his letter, President Museveni also notes that the matter can be handled transparently either prior to or on voting day and should therefore not be the source of conflict.
He said the registers used in these elections should thereafter the elections be forwarded to the NRM secretary general.
Complaints of missing registers and missing names on the party registers have been rife in the days leading up to the parliamentary primary election that are scheduled to take place on Friday the 4th of September 2020.
