The territorial police at Kira Division carried out a night operation targeting bars that were continuing to operate with in the areas of Kira Municipality in violation of ministry of health guidelines against the spread of COVID-19.
Luke Owoyesigyire the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Spokesperson says the operation followed a tip off by residents that some bars were stealthily operating and attending to customers thus flouting the guidelines.
He says most of the people were taking advantage of the relaxation of curfew.
During the operation, Owoyesigyire says they managed to arrest 22 suspects from La venti bar Najera and are currently detained at Kira Division police station.
“Other revelers upon seeing us fled but left their cars behind, which were also impounded by Police” says Owoyesigyire.
In a similar operation, Kiira Road Police station also arrested and detained the Manager of Cask Lounge at 35 John Babiha (Acacia) Avenue Kampala city for operating a bar hence flaunting guidelines from the ministry of health.
Owoyesigyire says the suspects are all being processed on charges of doing a negligent act likely to cause an infection of a disease.
He warned the public to at all time keep in mind the guidelines that were issued by the ministry of health before adding that the operation is on going to arrest all those defiant individuals.
