Kampala Lord Mayor Elias Lukwago has convened an emergency stakeholders’ meeting to address the pressing leadership vacuum in the Kampala Capital City Authority (KCCA). The meeting is scheduled for Thursday at 10 AM and comes in the wake of the recent dismissal of the KCCA Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, and Director of Public Health by President Yoweri Museveni.
The urgent engagement will bring together key figures, including members of the Central Executive Committee, the Speaker and Deputy Speaker of KCCA, all city councilors, division mayors, and Members of Parliament from Kampala. The Resident City Commissioner (RCC) has also been invited to join this critical discussion. The stakeholders are expected to explore how to navigate the current situation and ensure that city operations continue smoothly.
Lord Mayor Lukwago emphasized the importance of the meeting, stating, “Currently, the city does not have an Executive Director, Deputy Executive Director, or Director of Public Health. As stakeholders, we need to come together and chart a clear path forward.” The meeting aims to determine practical steps for managing the city’s affairs and filling the leadership void in a timely manner.
Roles of the KCCA Executive Director
The KCCA Executive Director is a pivotal figure in Kampala’s administration. The office is responsible for overseeing the city’s day-to-day operations and managing key directorates, including Treasury Services, Legal Affairs, Revenue Collection, and Internal Audit. Additionally, the Executive Director is tasked with leading public relations efforts and improving the public image of the city both locally and internationally.
The office works closely with the Deputy Executive Director, who supervises departments like Public Health, Education, Engineering, and Social Services, ensuring that all sectors contribute to Kampala’s growth and development. This decentralization of responsibilities allows the technical wing to function more efficiently and ensures the city’s smooth operations
