Four Baba FM Presenters Appear Before Jinja CPS For Questioning, Released On Police Bond

Police in Jinja have released on bond four Baba FM presenters who are being accused of inciting violence and disobeying lawful orders.

Three of the presenters Hussein Muyonjo aka Swengere, Alton Kasolo, and Atanansi Kalyowa were yesterday summoned to appear before the OCCID Jinja Central Police Station (CPS) to answer to the charges.

However, on reaching the police station, their sureties Pastor Andrew Muwanguzi and Hassan Muwanga were also summoned.

These were later released and ordered to report back on 4th August 2020 for further questioning.

According to Swengere, while at the police station, they were asked questions that were not in line with the cases written in their summons.

He says the police asked them questions rotating around Kyadondo East legislator Robert Kyagulanyi’s visit to the FM station recently.

“They asked us the number of people that were at the radio station when Bobiwine was hosted, the number of people he came with from Kampala, the type of car he used on that day, the intension of the dog which was seen at the premises of the radio station and the intension of the coffin that was allegedly found in one of the cars that escorted him” says Swengere

Three of the presenters Swengere, Kasolo and Muwanga belong to a comedy group called “Swengere  family”.

Following the arrest of members of the “Bizonto” comedy group due to one of their recent videos that authorities say promotes sectarianism, the trio recorded a similar video in solidarity with their colleagues in the industry.

The Bizonto comedy group members have also been released today. The release follows a court order issued today by Buganda Road senior Magistrate Grade One, Her Worship Stella Maris Amabilis Odong.

The orders were addressed to the Inspector General of Police, Martin Okoth Ochola, the Director of CID Grace Akullo and the Commandant of Police Special Investigations Unit (SIU), Kireka.

Yesterday, police Arrested Baba TV talkshow host Basajja Mivule from the station offices in Ntinda, Kampala moments after his morning show “Fumintiriza” . SML News understands that Mivule is being held at CID headquarters in Kibuli on yet to be disclosed charges.
